Voice of International Students
Mark Christian San Gabriel Guinto from Photonic Device Sicence Laboratory
The participant of the pre-screening program 2016 from Ateneo de Manila University, Philippinnes
Looking back, I cannot help but be amazed by how much of an impact the pre-screening internship had made in my life. Seeing the day-to-day research activities of passionate NAIST students firsthand and trying out some of their experiments and simulations for myself had been both so inspiring and rewarding that I decided to continue my graduate studies here. The internship program is well-organized and designed by the MS division so you can really get to know the tight-knit NAIST community, interact with esteemed professors (who are all very cordial), and appreciate how research in NAIST thrives at the intersections of photonics, electronics and biology. Finally, of course, just coming to Japan and immersing in its rich and beautiful culture is itself an opportunity of a lifetime.
Through the internship, I learned how NAIST is a truly capable institute not only in pushing the frontiers of science but also in nurturing budding researchers–oft committed to their tasks–as they themselves innovate, stride across the intersections of disciplines and come up with technological solutions to some of the greatest societal challenges of our time. Learning about all the scientific advances that came out of the laboratory from the very researchers who made it possible was personally very exciting. All throughout my stay, I was supported by the most endearing, kindest people from NAIST, to whom I am still very grateful.
Pakpuwadon Thanet from Photonic Device Sicence Laboratory
The participant of the pre-screening program 2016 from Kasetsart University, Thailand
My pre-screening process was around 1 month including lab stay. I took month within only one lab I was interesting. This is the most appropriate period, not too short and not too long. I had chance to try an advance equipment and join in a lot of classes and experiments. It is very important that you could learn a lab culture and explore the research theme. Not only a research activity, I took some time to take a trip around Kansai also.
Aimi Syairah Safaruddin from Information Device Sicence Laboratory
The participant of the pre-screening program 2016 from University of Malaya, Malaysia
Through this program, I was immersed in a graduate school setting and witnessed students independently working on their research theme, learned about the unique and rich Japanese cultures, and widened my network by making connection with international friends. During my stay, I developed new skills on device fabrication using the state-of-the-art equipment and facilities in the university while improving my interpersonal skills when interacting with diverse people. I also got a chance to visit few places in Kansai region which is a memorable experience for me. After joining this program, I found my interest in pursuing my study in Japan as the research scope in the laboratories is very wide which gave me good insights on the field of electronics.
